JULY 14, 2022

Tuesday 19th from 11AM to 1PM, Dronica meets Cerpintxt for our monthly guest mix on Resonance Extra.

Cerpintxt is an electroacoustic progress report from the cosmic madhouse, through the medium of voice, auto-destruction, wind-guided experiments in protoconversation. Her work is concerned with generating an invented language of a particular strain of softness through phonetic entropy and augmented instrumentation. The hauntological element of her work explores a form of sonic activism against the weaponization of love in Egypt. She curates the London-based event Boundary Condition. A durational sonic immersion for the rabidly sentimental: investigating the parallelization between dark-jazz, hauntology, and music concrete as nostalgia-centric practices trickling from the persistence and antagonistic fragmentation of certain memories.

MAY 15, 2022

Tomorrow from 8PM to 10PM, Dronica meets Scual & dTHEd for our monthly guest mix on Resonance Extra.

Scual and dTHEd are collaborating for a new audio/visual work, due to be published later this year on Stochastic Resonance.

The mix, in its first half, will introduce the work with a bespoke live performance, and will carry on with some sounds that have been companions of the development process of the project in recent months.

Scual – Special Cures for Uncurable Anesthetized Lovers – is a multidisciplinary project started by Lorenzo Cco in late 2006.

Born as an experimental web platform for the collection and publication of multidisciplinary projects, as results of personal works and collaborations. It then moved onto the physical plane, first with the activity of vjing, then by proposing multimedia performances and installations.

Its aesthetic research focuses on the permeation of different media categories, synthesized through the digital process, emphasizing the distortions and discontinuities that occur between those passages.

Scual is one of the initiatives behind the creation of the network of artistic research, Stochastic Resonance.

dTHEd is a multidisciplinary art trio inspired by the dilemmas stemming from neurodiversity (e.g. ASD) and the anthropocene (e.g. hyperobjects).

We do: music, graphics, videos, interviews, talks, performances, concerts, prints, VR, social experiments and sensory explorations in order to raise awareness, through unexpected beauty.

Works involving Jose’s sound design have toured major festivals in Madrid, Berlin, Athens, Brussels, Milan, Barcelona and other cultural centres.

Jose has worked with Ernesto Tomasini, Ron Athey, HR. Giger, Sally Mann, Empress Stah, Lydia Lunch, FFIN DANCE Company, UCL, Unite The Union, Katerina Valstur and many more.

Jose presents a two hour granular hybrid mix, blending music from almost hundreds different artists, as well as his music, into a cathartic journey.

MARCH 21, 2022

Tonight from 8PM to 10PM Dronica meets Penelope Trappes for our monthly guest mix on Resonance Extra.

“Deva in Sanskrit means “heavenly, divine, anything of excellence”

It is this mantra, sublimely interpreted within Alice Coltrane’s track Deva Deva, that I wanted to be the focus for my mix.
The state of the world right now is beyond words. I hope that the music within this mix can remind us all to hold onto Love and show us that it still exists.
The first hour I have collated artists who inspire me to continue to look to the light. The last half is my Mother’s Blood album.
I believe it is the power of creativity that unites us all in life. I dedicate this mix to the people of the Ukraine and to world peace.”

Tracklist:

Alice Coltrane – Deva Deva
Zane Trow – Room
Abul Mogard – Along The River
Olivia Block – Laika
Hinako Omori – (Nature Reset Gap)

She uses video, soundscapes, text, live acts and immersive installations to explore themes related to ecology, posthumanism, (trans)gender politics and wellbeing. As a counteraction to political polarisation, Niya seeks to establish intimacy with her audience, creating a meditative space of vulnerability, affect and interdependence.
Niya has shown work in exhibitions, festivals, live art events and academic conferences including Tate Britain and The Yard Theatre (London), CCA (Glasgow), Performance Space
(Folkestone), NEoN festival (Dundee); 5th Thessaloniki Biennale; 5th Moscow Biennale; International Print Biennale (Newcastle); Goldsmiths University of London; University of Leeds. Niya is the recipient of a Jerwood bursary and her projects have been supported among others by Arts Council England, the British Council and the Cultural Institute Leeds.
“At Translucent we slow down,
and listen to the quiet and the subtle.
We reside in noise
We allow softness,
We encourage acts of defiance,
we welcome failure,
we explore strategies of survival,
we open up to healing;
we care about each other and the world around us;
we thrive;
we don’t settle into binary categories of identity,
we become and become again;
we refuse to be pigeonholed into what cis-heteronormativity considers as trans and queer performance.”

After many weeks and thoughts, sadly we have come to the conclusion that our 2020 October festival cannot take place as planned. Due to all the difficulties of this weird and uncertain time, we feel like it’s impossible to guarantee the festival at a safe and required level. However we are already working on other projects in order to protect our community and the DIY experimental scene.

‘N16 9ES: three years of Dronica’, the audio-photo booklet released on Rome’s pseudomagica and co-produced by pseudomagicaDronica Festival and our photographer, Matteo Favero, got a really nice mention on Battiti (Radio 3), the amazing radio show curated by Pino Saulo on Radio 3.

Battiti (Radio 3) is one of the best (and our favorite) radio show in Italy for music of research and we are extremely honoured to be mentioned in this episode.

The last half hour of the show is entirely dedicated to the booklet, Dronica Festivalpseudomagica and the experimental sound-art scene in London.

Pino also selected and played a few tracks from the compilation by WorstworldproblemsEraldo BernocchiKate Carr, Pinna (Pascal Colman) and Rotten Bliss.

Many thanks to Pino Saulo and Antonia Tessitore for their kind words about the festival and the work we have been doing in the past few years.

The booklet was released last May in occasion of the Three Years Anniversary of the festival at St Matthias’ Church, Stoke Newington.

Writer and artist Agata Kik wrote an amazing article about Deep Listening practice at Dronica #10 on CLOT Magazine.
“…During the festival, the church’s architecture accompanied each of the artists, who animated it through their performances. Causing even particles of stone to shiver, simultaneously solidifying the gaseous inner atmosphere, Dronica #10 was predominantly a time of transcendence. Ideas of the physical and the ephemeral, the ethereal and the material folded into each other and left one blind to their difference. The festival was, thus, a chance to learn that to know more does not only mean to see wider but to listen deeper, to use also skin to perceive…”

MAY 07, 2019

We are very proud to announce this release we co-produced with pseudomagica in result of a long-time collaboration. This is the third release of the Rome-based multidisciplinary publishing house.

‘N19 9ES – three years of Dronica’ is a self-produced photo-booklet and audio cd compilation, a tribute to the polymorphic, alternative art scene that has revolved around the festival for the past three years. The idea is to define this experience through Matteo Favero’s shots, accompanied by a selection of the music that lived through the walls of The Old Church, an Elizabethan building located in Stoke Newington, which hosted mostly of the past editions. N16 9ES is also and more importantly a passionate compendium that tells about our/your years of Dronica, a token of love that we dedicate to all of the artists who supported our efforts, to the crew that helped us with immense enthusiasm sacrificing their time and energy, and last but not least, to the public that nurtures and stimulates our researches.

We would like to thank all the artists and people involved and supported the festival during these three past years

A special thanks to Ilia Rogatchevski.

‘N19 9ES – three years of Dronica’ will be available at Dronica #10 // 3-DAY Festival // 3 Years Anniversary this week as well as online:
